Designer Daniel Bangham can trace his inspiration back to geometric shapes found on Greek pottery. Bangham pulls out some stunning fabric prints, blazing with colour. As if it were a taunt, he calmly remarks, "this isn't right for your project."

Out came another folder of hand drawn and coloured patterns. "I feel these would suit you more." Bangham had in fact been looking at native American prints. He explained that there were similarities between the geometric shapes in Greek pottery and that of the more tribal native American patterns.

Bangam's design echoes the work of the South African painter Esther Mahlangu, who painted the 1995 BMW Art Car.

We will be following Daniel Bangham's work throughout the project.
