Supporting the Fight Against MND: Leeds Hospitals Charity Event at Rudding Park
Supporting the Fight Against MND
Leeds Hospitals Charity Event at Rudding Park
On Friday (Oct 24th), our Managing Director, Katie, attended the Leeds Hospitals Charity event at Rudding Park in support of the Rob Burrow Centre for Motor Neurone Disease (MND), a cause that holds deep personal significance for the Specialised Covers family.
Katie’s mum, Carole, one of our company’s founders, was diagnosed with MND in 2021. Since then, we’ve witnessed first-hand the profound impact this devastating disease can have on individuals and their loved ones. The event was an opportunity not only to raise awareness but to come together with others who share the same hope, that one day, a cure will be found.
The evening featured a heartfelt talk from the daughter of Ian Flatt, who is also living with MND. She spoke powerfully about their family’s journey, from the challenges and daily realities of the disease to the incredible work they’ve done supporting the Rob Burrow Centre for MND in Seacroft. Her openness about anticipatory grief deeply resonated with Katie, capturing the difficult balance so many families face between cherishing the present and coping with the loss of the future they once imagined.
At Specialised Covers, supporting this cause is personal. Carole’s resilience and positivity continue to inspire our entire team every day, and we are proud to stand alongside the Leeds Hospitals Charity and the wider MND community. By raising awareness and supporting continued research, we hope to play a small part in helping those affected and driving progress toward better care and, ultimately, a cure.
MND is relentless, but events like this remind us that there is strength in community and hope in shared purpose. With families like the Burrows and the Flatts leading the way, and with ongoing fundraising and awareness, the future for those living with MND can be brighter.
If you’d like to support this incredible cause, please consider donating to the Leeds Hospitals Charity and the Rob Burrow Centre for MND. Every contribution, no matter the size, helps make a difference.
