Specialised Covers Attend the Make UK Defence Summit 2025: A Week of Insight, Innovation & New Connections

Specialised Covers at the Make UK Defence Summit 2025

Insight, inspiration, and new partnerships within the UK defence manufacturing community.

Last week marked our first time attending the Make UK Defence Summit, and it proved to be an exceptional introduction to the wider defence manufacturing landscape. The event delivered an impressive programme, featuring influential speakers, industry-leading expertise, and invaluable opportunities for collaboration.

Inspirational Leadership from Jo Salter MBE

One of the standout moments of the summit was hearing from Jo Salter MBE, the first female RAF fast-jet pilot. Her story was nothing short of extraordinary, equal parts humorous, candid, and deeply motivational. From flying through the Lake District at low level to anecdotes involving Tom Cruise, Jo brought an energy and openness that captivated the entire room.

Her reflections on resilience, leadership, and navigating high-pressure environments resonated strongly with our team. It was one of those rare talks that stays with you long after the event has ended.

A Warm Welcome from the Defence Community

Across the first day, we were able to listen to a wide range of speakers who offered insight into the challenges, opportunities, and innovations shaping the sector.

As newcomers to the Make UK Defence Summit, we were genuinely overwhelmed by the kindness, openness, and generosity of everyone we met. The conversations were engaging, supportive, and full of shared ambition a testament to the spirit of collaboration within the UK defence manufacturing community.

Productive Meetings & Promising Future Partnerships

Day two’s Meet the Buyer sessions proved equally valuable. We held several highly promising discussions with buyers and partners who were eager to understand our capabilities in technical textiles, precision manufacturing, and bespoke protective solutions.

There are some exciting opportunities ahead, and we’re looking forward to continuing those conversations in the coming weeks. Patience may be a theme across the defence sector, but the potential for meaningful long-term collaboration is something we are truly excited about.

A Strong Future for UK Defence & Manufacturing

A huge thank you to Make UK Defence for organising such a dynamic, well-structured, and forward-thinking summit. The strong mix of speakers, suppliers, and industry leaders highlighted the creativity and momentum driving UK manufacturing today.

As Specialised Covers continues to expand its technical textile capabilities within defence, aerospace, industrial, and specialist sectors, events like this are invaluable in shaping our direction and forging lasting partnerships.

We’re already looking forward to returning next year, with more experience, deeper connections, and even greater ambition.
