Introducing the Panoramic Window Cover. A New Product Born From a Real Problem

Panoramic windows have become one of the most desirable features on modern caravans. The light they bring into the front lounge, the view they offer on site, the way they transform the feel of the interior, it’s easy to understand why so many owners choose a van with one.

But over time, a problem has emerged that a growing number of caravan owners have experienced and that some caravan manufacturers have had to acknowledge: prolonged exposure to extreme heat and repeated heating and cooling cycles can cause panoramic windows to crack.

It’s not a manufacturing defect in the traditional sense. It’s the cumulative effect of a large expanse of glass or acrylic being subjected to intense, sustained solar heat , day after day, season after season, with nothing between it and the sun.

When we became aware of this, we did what we always do: we looked for a solution.

The Problem

Panoramic Windows in the Sun

A panoramic window is, by its nature, a large surface area facing forward on the caravan, often at an angle that maximises solar exposure. When a van is parked up on a sunny pitch, in a storage facility or on a driveway, that window can absorb significant heat over the course of a day.

The issue isn’t a single hot day. It’s the repeated cycle of heating and cooling, expanding and contracting over time, combined with periods of particularly intense or prolonged sunshine. Over months and years, this thermal stress accumulates, and in some cases, it leads to cracking.

For a caravan owner, a cracked panoramic window is a costly and disruptive problem. It’s also, we felt, a preventable one.

The Solution

A Tailored Reflective Cover

Our Panoramic Window Cover is a tailor-made reflective cover designed to sit over the panoramic window while the caravan is stationary, reflecting heat away from the glass surface and helping to reduce the temperature build-up that causes the problem.

It’s a straightforward idea — but the execution matters.

The fabric is a premium 6mm foam-backed reflective material. The reflective outer surface bounces sunlight away from the window rather than allowing it to be absorbed. The foam backing provides a soft, cushioned barrier between the cover and the window, non-abrasive, gentle on the surface, and designed specifically so that fitting and removing the cover won’t scratch or mark the glass.

The fit is tailored to your caravan’s make and model. Each cover is made individually to fit the specific dimensions and profile of your panoramic window, not a universal approximation, but a precise cover for your van.

The fitting uses the caravan’s existing awning channels. The cover slides into the nearside channel, then the offside section slides in and the two pieces are fastened together with Velcro. No tools, no modifications to the caravan, no drilling, just a clean, secure fit using the infrastructure that’s already there. One person can fit it, though a ladder will be required and on some caravan models, two awning stoppers.

The cover comes with its own compact storage bag, making it easy to store tidily when not in use.

An Important Note

Warranties

While the Panoramic Window Cover has been designed to help protect your caravan’s panoramic window, we recommend checking with your caravan manufacturer or warranty provider before fitting to ensure it doesn’t affect the terms of your warranty. This is straightforward due diligence that’s worth doing before any aftermarket accessory is fitted to a new van.

An Important Note

Awning Stoppers

On some caravan models, two awning stoppers may be needed to keep the cover correctly positioned within the awning channels and prevent it from sliding downwards. These are not supplied with the cover but are widely available from caravan accessory retailers including Fiamma. If you’re unsure whether your van requires awning stoppers, get in touch and we’ll advise.

An Important Note

What This Cover Is and What It Isn’t

The Panoramic Window Cover is designed for use when your caravan is stationary only. It must not be used while towing. If you’re looking for protection for a panoramic or top window during transit, our Tow Pro Infinity range has been specifically designed and tested for on-road use. Providing extended height coverage that shields panoramic windows from stone chips and road debris while towing. The two products have been designed to serve different purposes.
