The Easy Fitting Behind Tailored Towing Covers

One of the most common things first-time buyers say after fitting their Tow Pro for the first time is some version of: “That was easier than I expected.”

It should be. A towing cover that takes twenty minutes to fit isn’t a practical solution — it’s a reason not to bother. Our Tow Pro range is designed to go on quickly, stay secure at speed, and come off just as easily when you arrive on site. No tools. No alterations. Nothing beyond what comes in the bag.

Here’s exactly how it works.

Before You Start

Clean the front of your caravan first. This is the most important step and the one most people skip. If dirt or grit is trapped between the cover and the caravan’s front panel, it creates an abrasive surface that can cause the very damage the cover is supposed to prevent. A quick wipe down before fitting is all it takes — and it protects both the caravan and the inner lining of your cover.

Also take a moment to familiarise yourself with the cover before fitting for the first time. Two-person fitting is recommended, though the cover has been designed so it can be fitted by one person easily.

Step 1 — Place the cover across the A-frame

Lay the Tow Pro across the front of the caravan, sitting across the A-frame. On the nearside of the caravan, feed the awning tape into the channel from the bottom and slowly slide it up until the full length is fitted.

Step 2 — Move to the offside

Walk around to the offside of the caravan and undo the full height zip. Feed the awning tape into the offside channel from the bottom, working it up to the top. Once fully in the channel, zip up the open section. Ensure the cut-away A-frame section sits neatly over the A-frame.

Step 3 — Check the position and lights

Ensure the cover sits straight and adjust as needed so the caravan’s lights are clearly visible through the Clear Eyes panels. If awning stoppers are required — supplied with the cover where needed — ensure these are fitted into the channel at the base where the cover naturally finishes.

Step 4 — Secure the Quick Fit Clips

Pull the Quick Fit Clips out of their pockets and hook them under the valance at the front of the caravan, securing them in place. These clips create tension and prevent dirt getting underneath the cover during travel. Make sure all clips are securely hooked.

Step 5 — Fit the A-frame strap

Pass the A-frame strap under the A-frame and above the brake cable — it is essential the strap passes over the brake cable, not under it, to avoid affecting towing safety. Connect the clips and tension the strap until secure.

Fasten the Velcro tension straps

Adjust and fasten the Velcro tension straps at the top of each side of the cover. Be careful not to over-tighten these. Once both sides are secured, you’re ready to tow.

Removing the Cover

Removal is the fitting process in reverse — and just as straightforward.

Step 1 — Unfasten the A-frame strap, unclip all the Quick Fit Clips from under the valance, undo the Velcro tension straps, and undo the full height zip on the offside to release the awning tape from that channel.

Step 2 — Walk around to the nearside and slide the awning tape fully out of the channel. The cover is now free of the caravan. Zip the offside section back up once the tape is removed.

Step 3 — Hold the cover out straight or lay it across a flat surface to fold. Fold it so the soft inner lining faces inward — this protects the backing and keeps it clean. Keep the cover off the ground during folding to prevent dirt contact with the inner lining.

Step 4 — Place the folded cover into the storage bag, ready for your next trip. If the cover is damp when you remove it, lay it out to dry before packing it away wherever possible.

A Note for European Caravan Owners

The standard fitting method described above requires two open awning channels. Some European caravan models only feature one open awning channel — if this applies to your van, your cover will be fitted using a slightly different method involving 3M adhesive poppers on the channel-free side. Get in touch with our team and we’ll advise on the right approach for your specific caravan.
