Students from Leeds College of Art have teamed up with  Specialised Covers based in Shipley, to create a range of unique fitted car covers, which will be modelled on a Ferrari, Mercedes and BMW, at the annual End of Year Show in June. This special exhibition will be on public display for one day only on Saturday 16th June at our Blenheim Walk Site.

BA (Hons) Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design students are more familiar with designing for fashion fabrics, interior fabrics, cards and gift wrap, but when Specialised Covers came to the College with this opportunity, students jumped at the chance to see their artwork in a different format and  transformed into bespoke fitted car covers.

Specialised Covers manufacture tailor fitted covers for cars, bikes and caravans, for some of the world’s largest automotive brands including, Audi, Bentley, Mercedes, McLaren and the Formula 1 teams. The company approached students from BA (Hons) Printed Textiles & Surface Pattern Design to use their creative flair to update designs for the covers. Twenty seven 2nd and 3rd year students submitted their designs, which have been showcased on the Specialised Covers blog. Each design is available to buy, and Specialised Covers selected three covers to go into manufacture which will be in display at the End of Year Show on Saturday 16 June.

Adam Irwin Marketing Manager at SpecialisedCovers said the company was overwhelmed by the exceptional standard of work produced. He said: 'When we were looking for a College to work with, Leeds College of Art was first on our list, mainly because of its superb reputation. We would love to manufacture all the designs but had to select only three’

‘We selected a design by Bryony Rose Atkinson because she was able to create a range of high impact designs that used a clever colour palate, her designs had a stylised look that we feel will appeal to a wide audience.’

‘Emma Burton came up with a design dubbed ‘Car Pyjama’s’, we love this idea and it really represents what our brand is about, because it understands the care our customers put into looking after their cars and it can be specialise to any make or model car.’

‘Finally we chose a design from  Stephanie- Rose Turner, she came up with a refreshing perspective to visually represent speed, and has managed to create a masculine design using natural forms.’

The cars will be on display during the End of Year Show at Blenheim Walk lecture theatre on Saturday 16 June 12pm-6pm.
