October 12th saw Specialised Covers sponsor a team, headed up by our Creative Director, in The Major Series 5k obstacle race held at historic Bramham Park near Wetherby. Bramham Park has been in the Lane Fox family for generations and has some of the most beautiful gardens and park land in all of God’s Own County but this weekend it was turned into a battlefield of mud, sweat and tears as 376 runners gave their all to finish this grueling course. The Major Series, voted the UK’s best trail race, is an award winning UK event of either 5 or 10k and prides itself on being one of the friendliest events out there. Competing teams will find themselves blathered in mud and waist deep in water pretty much immediately after the starting line. Now the idea of a bunch of ladies rolling around thigh deep in mud sounds like a lot of fun at first but our intrepid team, made up of Katie Fishwick, Beacky Ashley-Still, Karen Winspear and Elizabeth Duncombe, faced daunting obstacles such as slithering face down in thick mud to negotiate their way under barbed wire netting, traversing icy waters up to their necks with a river crossing, climbing a tyre wall and even a downhill section on spacehoppers! Despite all this sounding like our idea of torture, the team had a blast and are looking forward to doing it again next year. They must be mad! In addition to sponsoring the team we also made a donation to Friends of Follifoot School which is a local organisation close to our hearts. Amongst other activities, they are heavily involved in raising funds for the school to enhance the children’s education experience and the school’s facilities. Our girls put in an absolutely kick-ass performance and finished in an impressive time of 1 hour 20 minutes, putting them in 25th place out of 376 competitors! We are so proud of you all and know you’ll rank even higher next year!
